Welcome back!
I don’t know about you but I am always excited when I come across mainstream media articles that highlight online media platforms! Great news for small business and online video producers alike!
Today’s story starts out by introducing readers to the “Will It Blend?” online video series from Blendtec. So how is it that a blender manufacturer is one of the most subscribed to channels on youtube? Let’s see…
Each short and simple episode consists founder Tom Dickson blending up the unexpected (iphone, Nintendo, crowbar…) and views range from the hundreds of thousands to millions!
Is it safe to say, Tom has is thought outside of the box and scored? It can be overwhelming to settle on an idea and go for it. When I encourage clients to step outside the box, it can sometimes be scary but the rewards are worth it.
My favorite acting coach (Molly McCarthy) used to always urge us to make choices that pushed our limits. The secret to success in leaving our natural comfort zone was to remain TRUE. TRUE is intimidating for some because many people are too insecure to be themselves.
A blender is not a sexy tool. You can see from the video that Tom isn’t trying to be hot and snazzy. He’s an old engineer blending up crazy stuff and his videos are good looking but not over produced. The slightly retro music and graphics add to the overall brand (well made, trustworthy AND cool…NICE!)
The Schenectady Gazette article points out local business that have looked to video sharing to promote their brands and products. The others have had less views than Blentec but still experienced some success and definitely built up their belief in online video.
