Welcome back!

Lego engineer

I took the day of yesterday so I could take my “Littles” to Legoland. My five and six year olds ran me around from one ride to the next and I had a blast. We started our day with a boat ride around the Mini Marina. As the guide gave us tidbits of info about the sights we passed, I listened, took pictures and made the following observations.

Points I believe are easily applied to creating media that is interesting and original:

1. Man they use a TON of Legos! Duh! The resource is available in abundance at Legoland. We all have resources around us but sometimes skip using them because we may not think they are interesting or offer much creative value. A resource only has to serve ONE purpose, creativity comes in the assembly or connection of our combinations.

2. The Taj Mahal wasn’t built in a day and neither was it’s lego replica. Take your time. There is an absolute frenzy about making video right now. I think people are using it more as a SEO technique than as a medium of communication. Consequently I am disappointed when I come to a site and watch a video that is without direction.

3. Play! We used to do it all the time but then we got really serious. When I saw the Lego engineer building a new piece of the San Francisco model, I couldn’t help but think what a COOL job. Making media is a cool job. If we play around a bit we can produce incredible work.

4. Inspiration comes from everywhere. I cannot believe the objects that we’re created out of Legos. From replicas to storybook tales, someone was determined to make a statement. Get inspired and go create, people will pay for the remarkable. My kids LOVED it and I doled out plenty of cash.

5. Take a break. I am the owner of a media production company, have a couple of short forms in development, am launching a coaching biz…I can easily get, crazy busy. Taking a break is super refreshing and not only good for the eyes but for the spirit as well.
