Welcome back!

Hallelujah!

A couple of weeks ago, I read this article on Inside Online Video and I knew I needed to blog about it. I of course am doing the happy dance right now.

When I left a lucrative career in Film and TV, people wondered if I’d lost my mind. Especially because my fascination with production was skewed in the direction of what was then know as “multimedia,” transformed into “new media,” and is now known as just “MEDIA.” I often got asked the question “who the heck is going to watch video on their computer?” Mind you, at the time not many people were watching the fuzzy little postage sized video screens but I knew one day…

I learned to edit on Adobe Premiere and moved on to a Media 100. I remember when the first version of Final Cut was released I had so many problems figuring out how to use the right video capture card with my OS, that I gave up! I know this sounds like one of those “Kids don’t know how good they have it” stories that your dad might tell but it’s TRUE! Today, anyone can go into a consumer electronics store and nab a system that will have them posted on youtube within hours. Oddly enough, that’s the good, the bad and the ugly of it all rolled into one.

The MOST fascinating element of multimedia for me, continues to be interactivity. I don’t know if most content creators are prepared for the often hilarious, sometimes cruel interactive online community. For entertainment purposes BAD attention is better than none at all…

I love BUCK.

Anyway, I’ve seen some FABULOUS videos on all types of subjects. I’ve seen some junk. As I begin to work with more independent business owners, I hope to push them prepare to battle for viewership! With 90% of all traffic in 2012 being video, we’ll have to see where and how the cream will rise to the top.

My friend Nancy recently had her Viva Visibility blog re-done by Maria Reyes-McDavis, aka the Web Success Diva. What an awesome job Maria did! As a matter of fact, even though I’ve just had this sucker created, I am going to have her redo mine as well.

She has added so much dynamic functionality that Nancy’s PR went up within about an hour! Maria is this cool web biz owner that is so secure, she shares how she runs her business with anyone who asks. She posted a couple of great informative screen capture vids sharing how she did the blog makeover but the thing that would’ve made the videos even better, would’ve been embedding it from viddler.com.

Why am I a viddler.com groupie? It all started when Rob Sandie, co-founder and President of Viddler, favorited one of my videos!

Ok, I was flattered but seriously, the tagging feature on Viddler is a lifesaver for people who don’t edit. Some people will watch 6 minutes straight of video but when it comes to information, truth be told, I just want the juicy bits. With Viddlers GENEROUS 500MB video upload maximum you can post some pretty high quality looking videos too. Makes sense for a blog embed. I would still use Youtube for #’s alone but Viddler’s got my vote for form and function.

Check out Colin Devroe’s use of the functionality, I’m talking about. Each of those dots represents a note or comment on the video. (I commented at the very beginning.) You can also read the blog post to the vid here: http://blog.viddler.com/cdevroe/howto-videoblogging/

So tell me am I the only Viddlerholic? Am I crazy? Why isn’t everyone and their mother using Viddler embeds?

You know that 25 bucks you were going to give Madam Zora to tell your fortune? Save it! TubeMogul, a content creators best friend, has just announced a new addition to it’s arsenal of cool tools.

TubeMogul found that 50% of a video’s total views occur in the first two weeks, peaking on day three, which constitutes 11% of all views. To the average person this may be TMI (too much info) but for content creators making $, it’s all good! Based on this formula, all the businesses using video marketing, can schedule release dates that coincide with product launches and promotions, short form creators can work the numbers to get financing, the possibilities are endless. VERY COOL.

At my last count TubeMogul gave users the ability to upload to 13 different sites at once. I can’t imagine why a content creator or optimizer wouldn’t use this resource but man, they just keep getting better.
